Shades of red
Red evokes many things in our mind, imagination, memory, knowledge, senses.
In terms of symbolic meaning, it lies at both extremes. It’s life, vitality, happiness, luck, love, passion, longing, strength, power… but it can also be anger, hatred, danger, sacrifice, war… , depending on the context where it’s placed.
For the shades in this work, I mixed different proportions of scarlet, crimson, primary magenta, burnt sienna, cadmium yellow, titanium white and carbon black. They are placed randomly, without any rules.
Our perception of one object can be different from the others’. It can be complex like cultural conception, tradition, religion, politics, or simply emotions intertwined at the same time: blanket, box of chocolate, vivid bouquet of flowers, colorful sunset or warm sparks from a bonfire.
